Unattended Installation of MCE on Pro Problem

Recommended Posts

Afternoon all,

What is the best order of installing media center, the hotfixs, rollups and .net versions?

I hflsip all Windows XP Pro Updates.

I nLite .net 1.1 sp1 with all updates, and .net 2.0 with all updates.

During installation of Pro at T-13 stage, mce is installed.

Is this the correct order?

MCE appears to be installed, but If I go to execute it from the start menu it doesn't actually open.

and any hotfixes or rollups do not appear on windows updates? Should they?

Also... I get a registration message come up at the T13 stage, I know this is normal, but is there any way to surpress it, as i'm trying to go for the completely unattended way.

cheers!

just install Windows XP MCE. With RunOnceEx you have to install MS .NET Framwork 1.1 SP1, the UpdateRollup2 (extract the installer to get all seperate hotfixes and install them silently with "/passive /norestart"), Update KB912024 and the Juli Update RollUp.

now you have a mce up to date ;)

I've left net 1.0 sp3 in. As it's on XP Pro discs as default... isn't it?

I'm using the wbpluto's thread to install mce at t12 stage from cmdlines.txt

I just want to know, what order is best.

and why no updates are showing up for me on windows updates.

I answered your similar question in another thread. Yes, it is on the XP Pro CD in the CMPNENTS folder. HOWEVER, you need to have netfx=on in your unattend.txt for it to acutally install...it is NOT installed by default.

What do I have to do to get media center updates to appear on windows updates?

EDIT:

Just realised have to do custom rather than express on windows update to get updates for media center.

And yes i know the version numbers are out dated.

I will redo the guide when i have time.

But here is what you can do :

Install MCE, best is with all normal updates in it , like with ryans pack etc.

He doesnt include MCE hotfixes , so when you go to windows update the only hotfixes that are left are from MCE.

Write them all down.

The. put them like the guide, in your unattended

@antonio_king , if i am pointless , what are you? ;)
