internet Connection Sharing Computer

a question>>>> pc 1 has xp running on it with ics facilities (i have an adsl modem connected via usb). the same computer has 2 nic not being used. :/

then i have pc2 and pc3 lying about (one with xp the other with RH9).<here comes the question asking a tooooooooootal newbie) would it be possible for me to connect pc2 and pc3 to pc1 using just crossover ethernet cables or would i have to invest in a switch/hub/router?

you should be able to connect directly,

thou you can get a switch very cheap these days, and it will make your life easier.

p.s. btw from my experience RH9 should connect to ICS with no trouble...

I'd suggest the hub/switch method over the crossover cables one because the crossover method won't allow easy file sharing, plus PC2 and PC3 will need PC1 to be turned on to connect to each other; and you will need two NICs.

OTOH, the hub/switch method allows PC1 to have only 1 NIC, and PC2 and PC3 will be able to do some filesharing while PC1 is off.
