Hello,

I am scratching my head on this. When I add this command to the registry it works only once. When I restart teh computer for a second time it is no longer in the reg. Why is this??

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"Bginfo"="c:\\bginfo\\bginfo /ic:\\bginfo\\bginfo.bgi /timer:0"

Is there some monitoring application that removes startup registry entries automatically, or some Group Policy (if the PC is joined to a domain) that restricts startup entries?

And does it work if you put it in HKCU registry hive instead?

this is a standalone xp pro version. If I add in the HKCU I get the same thing. I dont have any starup restrictions adn yes logged in as admin.

my HKLM and HKCU Run folders are empty if this matters

During the UA install I have this reg key added at the end

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"Acrobat Assistant 7.0"=-
"Device Detector"=-
"iTunesHelper"=-
"RemoteControl"=-
"QuickTime Task"=-
"SunJavaUpdateSched"=-

I notice:

there should be a line separating the two:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]

and "software" is normally in caps.

I don't know about the syntax of BGInfo. Just make sure the reg file format is absolutely correct first.

The BGInfo webpage says you can put it in your Startup folder.

Since you've now asked the same qu in that forum hopefully someone there will know.
