ponczek Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 hey guys im in need of some major help im a college student and something is messing round on my laptop im running windows xp home and i dont no what it is every time i open a document or any program asociated with typing i get the following msg:SMART UI 32-bits gateway errorcan't load SMART Utilities (code 999) error preforming impage operationi though my printer caused this problem so i un hooked it and it still does it. i also got this msg when i unhooked my printer. am im not sure but i think this problem is causing the computer not to do a system restor and i cant get into the device manager and when i got to control pannel it says theres some error but loads up.any help in solving the problem would be very very much appreciated as i am in school and need this laptop to work and cant afford to reformat the comp to to assignments on the computer plz help and thank you for ur time

LLXX Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 Have you tried chkdsk'ing the drive?...and even though it's a laptop, it's not designed to be thrown around or handled roughly. That damages the hard drive quickly.
