You generally shouldn't use svcpack to install programs. Use cmdlines.txt for better results. Svcpack should be used for hotfixes.

Exactly what is better about using cmdlines.txt? what are these 'better results'?

cmdlines.txt executes @ T-13 and .0005 nano seconds later, svcpack executes. There is absolutely no difference whatsoever, just a different method, but both are equally effective and the results, identical.

To the innitial poster .. There is no way to know whether or not a program installation is svcpack compatable until you actual perform test installations and scrutinize the resulting installation to determine if it went as expected. If i state an installation is svcpack compatable you can be assured i tested that installation from svcpack and checked to the best of my ability that the installation went as expected, right down to also uninstalling the installation.

I was planning to start a topic for a list of apps that are SVCPACK.INF compatible. I think we can start it, here, now.

First, not all MSIs install perfectly under SVCPACK.INF. Bad example: SAV CE.

Second, if you usually create several user accounts, SFXs are good packages to install apps and get the shortcuts install for every user account.

However, this is not the list I talked about! I'll post mine, soon.

Generally apps that don't install Shortcuts into start menu/desktop/quicklaunch are svcpack compatible. e.g. Most innosetups are compatible w/ software.exe /NOICONS /VERYSILENT /NORESTART
