212121 Posted July 10, 2006 Posted July 10, 2006 helloi use nlite to install windows xp sp2 with NO internet explorer, media player, etc i install windows with almost nothing! and then i use xplite to remove some componentsi wanted to be able to view windows media in firefox, for that i could use:lite codec packages from:http://www.codecguide.comorhttp://ksphere.free.fr/public/codecslitethat way i dont need to have windows media player installed, but i was getting a error message everytime i try to watch a website with a video:NPDSPLAY (window title)"can not create DirectShow Player"i did EVERYTHING i could to fix it, searched and found this:http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=297172but it didn't help, and i also DON'T want to install windows media player, i wanted to use a lite package.but i found a fixe for my problem, it looks like firefox requires "java script" to be installed in windows, i can't remove it with xplitedoes this make any sense???thanks!
Zxian Posted July 10, 2006 Posted July 10, 2006 You've used nLite to remove stuff from Windows - therefore ask in the nLite forum. Topic Moved.
Aegis Posted July 10, 2006 Posted July 10, 2006 Sometimes I wonder if Zxian moves/locks topics just for more posts ...Anyway NPDSPLAY is a WMP component, so you could try changing the default action that Firefox takes when it encounters a WMP file extension. The problem could also be that you removed a DirectShow component, though I'm suspecting your problem is caused by the former.
OuTmAn Posted July 10, 2006 Posted July 10, 2006 personally I'd rather use Windows Media Lite (from codecguide.com)here's my method, with it I can play almost every windows media file in Firefox:- install WMLite as you used to, just uncheck "Windows Media plugin for Firefox/etc.", in fact we won't need it- copy npdsplay.dll file (attached) in WINDOWS\system32 directory- merge registry.reg file (attached too)that's all B)firefox plugin of WMLite doesn't seem to be working (installation path not recognized, maybe because I change it from default?), so I install it manuallynpdsplay.7z
Zxian Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 Sometimes I wonder if Zxian moves/locks topics just for more posts ...Actually, most of the time when I move a post, I don't reply in it. If I close the post, it's for a reason, so I tell the user why it was closed. Heck - I've even got more posts than MartinL... so what? As for the original question... here's something that you might be able to try. Firefox is mostly standalone, so if you take a virtual machine (MS VPC is now free) and install a full Windows on there, get Firefox working with the WMP plugin, and then just compress the Firefox folder and copy that to your nLited install. I'm not 100% sure if it'll work, but it might be a starting point.
