I have a 40 Gb Maxtor on my older computer that's about 4 years old. The Maxtor HDD is about 5 years old and no sign of dying yet. I think it's a myth about certain brands being bad.

I have a 16 Gb Seagate that I found from a salvaged PC that still works in my HDD enclosure.

I have a 2 Gb Maxtor from another salvaged PC that still works in my second HDD enclosure.

However, I think I killed my newer 200 Gb Maxtor HDD by jamming it twice in my system trying to fit it in my bay. (This is why I created this poll.)

Now I understand that all that noise my system was making was the HDD vibrating so much. I never had any data corruption.

Now, the system does not make that much noise.

Anyway, I still trust Maxtors. And of course, Maxtor was bought by Seagate.

Good questions....

Other than the one that I damaged myself (which was the reason for startign this post).... mine are still alive. Well... they're both < 1 year old....

Maybe, when one or both die, I will find this post and let you know. Hehe :-)
