tal ormanda Posted July 3, 2006 Posted July 3, 2006 I can connect and watch my friends on their screens but when they do it to me it always fails. Help?
CptMurphy Posted July 3, 2006 Posted July 3, 2006 What OS do they have? Also, do you have a firewall, and if so, what kind? Is it configured properly? There's a specific port for Remote Assistance that you need to allow, as well as the program itself.
tal ormanda Posted July 3, 2006 Author Posted July 3, 2006 windows xp, i got Zone alarm internet security suite. and i turned em all off and it didnt work.
tal ormanda Posted July 3, 2006 Author Posted July 3, 2006 They say when I do it it says i canceled it, but i didnt.
Mordac85 Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 Did you enable remote connections to your box (bottom option on the Remote tab in System props)?
tal ormanda Posted July 5, 2006 Author Posted July 5, 2006 My friend got this error now: Remote Assistance connection could not be established because the remote host name could not be resolved. Please try again.
Mordac85 Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 Are you on the same network or going through MS for the connection?
Mordac85 Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 Like m3n70r asked, do you have the OS firewall on or are you behind a firewall that would block the request?
tal ormanda Posted July 9, 2006 Author Posted July 9, 2006 My windows firewall is off and i turned Zone Alarm off too and it still didnt work.
CptMurphy Posted July 15, 2006 Posted July 15, 2006 It may be simple file sharing. Because XP uses it, and 2K doesn't, there's conflicts. I had a similar problem where I could see the other ppls PCs but they couldn't get into mine. I just turned off SFS and it fixed it up. Try that.
Takeshi Posted July 16, 2006 Posted July 16, 2006 (edited) SFS?simple file sharingI don't think making a RA connection has anything directly to do with SFS. SFS can't be turned off in XP HE but XP HE can use RA.Are you running XP Pro or HE?Has it been tweaked, or nLited? Are you behind a router? As I understand, RA can also be invited by email. Does that work? Edited July 16, 2006 by Takeshi
