Remote Assistance Problem [Windows Messenger]

I can connect and watch my friends on their screens but when they do it to me it always fails. Help?

What OS do they have? Also, do you have a firewall, and if so, what kind? Is it configured properly? There's a specific port for Remote Assistance that you need to allow, as well as the program itself.

windows xp, i got Zone alarm internet security suite. and i turned em all off and it didnt work.

They say when I do it it says i canceled it, but i didnt.

Did you enable remote connections to your box (bottom option on the Remote tab in System props)?

My friend got this error now:

Remote Assistance connection could not be established because the remote host name could not be resolved. Please try again.

Are you on the same network or going through MS for the connection?

Like m3n70r asked, do you have the OS firewall on or are you behind a firewall that would block the request?

My windows firewall is off and i turned Zone Alarm off too and it still didnt work.

It may be simple file sharing. Because XP uses it, and 2K doesn't, there's conflicts. I had a similar problem where I could see the other ppls PCs but they couldn't get into mine. I just turned off SFS and it fixed it up. Try that.

I don't think making a RA connection has anything directly to do with SFS. SFS can't be turned off in XP HE but XP HE can use RA.

Are you running XP Pro or HE?

Has it been tweaked, or nLited?

Are you behind a router?

As I understand, RA can also be invited by email. Does that work?
