Synapse Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 ok pretty simple question..I wanna block sites with the HOSTS file unattended... should i modify the HOSTS file in the I386 folder of my CD, or should i leave that one alone and make a copy to put in the "$OEM$\$$\System32\drivers\etc\" folder?thanks.
oioldman Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 i do it the same method you describe in your original post.just place your file in $OEM$\$$\System32\drivers\etc\use it all the time and works a treat
Mordac85 Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 Using the $OEM$ is probably the easier way to administer your file over time too.
Synapse Posted June 26, 2006 Author Posted June 26, 2006 sounds like both ways work. I've replaced the HOSTS file in my I386 folder with the one i use now and tested an install.. worked perfect.I'm gonna try and create one at $OEM$\$$\Drivers\Etc\ and see which one over writes which lol. i'm guessing the $OEM$ one will.
T D Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 Yep, the OEM will overwrite, hosts in i386 is in dosnet.inf and that copies before $OEM$
