krispy104 Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 Setting up multiple systems with the same hardware using a Ghost image. I want to use sysprep to do this but I have a question on it. I have noticed that it does not change the old computer name from the base image in the registry. Here are the specific keys that have the old name still listed.HKEY_USERS\Default\Software\Microsoft\Widnows Media\WMSDK\General - Computer Name HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-18\Software\Microsoft\Windows Media\WMSDK\General - Computer NameHKEY_USERS\S-1-5-19\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam - DefaultHKEY_USERS\S-1-5-20\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam - DefaultCan anyone tell me what these keys are used for and if it is going to cause a problem on the network if two or machines have these registry keys the same? ThanksJames
GeneralMandible Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 These shouldn't matter. They are the keys for user profiles. I would guess they get changed when the system reboots.
krispy104 Posted May 27, 2006 Author Posted May 27, 2006 Actually I know that they don't get replaced when the system reboots. I checked that after rebooting and loging on as a different user.
Sonic Posted May 31, 2006 Posted May 31, 2006 - Windows Media key:I think it's for identify the PC for transfer music/data to portable devices like MP3 players, IMHO you can re-set the value to the current name to avoid bugs. - ShellNoRoam key:You can delete ShellNoRoam key, it's for caching data ... it will be regenerated alll the time ...BTW, if you don't change these keys, there arn't any problems with network.
