treblamj Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 Hi, I am used to reformatting my Dell computer and I am going to reformat a Sony VAIO tonight. My question is........ for my Dell, the drivers (internet, audio, keyboard, etc.) were on a seperate cd then the recovery cd. The Sony VAIO came with 3 recovery cd's marked CD#1, CD#2, and CD#3. Are the drivers on those? I need to be for certain, because I need this Computer tomorrow morning. Please any help is appreciated.Thank you!
treblamj Posted May 16, 2006 Author Posted May 16, 2006 Why don't you browse the CDs to check?I dont have that much computer knowledge... i wont be able to notice what are drivers and what not
Zxian Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 If you've got three recovery CDs, then chances are it's an image recovery and you won't be installing Windows from scratch. What this means is that your computer will go back to exactly the way it was when you bought it (more or less). If you want to install Windows fresh, I would contact Sony for the original Windows CD. FYI, there might be a fee for this or there might not. I'm not sure what Sony's policy is on this.
Ghost_Shield Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 Hi,Generally the CDs that come with laptops are a factory default image of the hard drive, ie the state when you get it. The 3 cd's indicate that there are XP, drivers and application like battery management.I would feel pretty safe in saying that the drivers are on those cd's. Check Sonys website cause you can normally download that stuff. If you want to be absolutly certian run a Ghost of the hard drive (if you know what Ghost is:http://www.symantec.com/home_homeoffice/products/overview.jsp?pcid=br&pvid=ghost10) then reinstall.Good luck.Ghost Shield
