Can anyone recommend a low cost Helpdesk software. I have been given the task to find an affordable Helpdesk solution for our company. Currently we are using a custom designed Lotus Notes database and quite frankly it sucks. We only have a few requirements.

Must be web based

Must use Active Directory accounts

Must have escalation procedures. For example user requests to buy a laptop, manager receives an e-mail after the desktop tech requests approval, manager logs into system and approves requests.

I have used Magic, Remedy, Vantive and a few others in the past, I don't consider them low cost options. It's for a small environment, 500 or so employees.

have you thought about creating one with sharepoint services? there are helpdesk skins\themes (can remember the exact terminology) for sharepoint and i believe it can do all you want :)
