signup Posted May 1, 2006 Posted May 1, 2006 Hi everyoneI've got an ISO image of an unattended XP cd and my cdrw haspacked in. I was wondering if it would be possiblefor me to copy the iso image onto an usb hard drive and install windows FROM there? Thanks
nitroshift Posted May 1, 2006 Posted May 1, 2006 yes, you can. make sure tho that you can select in bios the usb device as your first boot device. also, you need to write the contents of the image onto the usb device, not just copy the image as it won't be bootable.
signup Posted May 1, 2006 Author Posted May 1, 2006 I gather that I would need to place the contents of the iso in the root of the hard drive?
nitroshift Posted May 1, 2006 Posted May 1, 2006 I gather that I would need to place the contents of the iso in the root of the hard drive?please read carefully my previous post. you need to extract the contents of the image onto the USB DEVICE, not your hdd. take care and good luck.PS. i'd rather buy a second-hand cd-rom just for this.
signup Posted May 1, 2006 Author Posted May 1, 2006 that's what I meant. Do I need to extract the contents of the iso onto the root of the USB drive? Also can I have other files and folders such as mp3's on the drive as well without affecting installation?
