missing feature in file - open

I'm using office 2000 and have noticed that when I click on the open button to open a file I don't see the 'tools' button that I have seen on other installs of Office 2000. Anyone how to enable this as it can be quite usefull for searching for Words docs.

insert your installation disk and then chose "repair".

Tried that but it's still the same. I think it's something that has to be turned on but I can't find anything in the help files or on the net.
