xenithon Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 Hi guys. Got a brand new Seagate SATA HDD which will be used for my new Windows XP install. Just wanted to know if there is any difference and/or preference between allowing XP setup to format the drive, or to prepare the drive beforehand using the Seagate bootable CD (downloadable from their site)?Cheers,X
Nakatomi2010 Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 I use the XP disc myself.... Lets the install go faster too... Just don't forget to hit F6 at the beginning of the setup to install your SATA drivers (This would need to be done either way)
xenithon Posted April 7, 2006 Author Posted April 7, 2006 Hi there. I have slipstreamed the SATA drivers with nLite so that is taken care of I normally let Windows do it, but thought perhaps the Seagate tool would do it in some 'optimized' way.
LLXX Posted April 8, 2006 Posted April 8, 2006 Seagate's own bootdisk probably contains diagnostic programs so you can check your drive for any dead sectors etc. before using it.
