wippy Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 Mornin'. Printer has been working fine, but, then decides not to work. After much effort, was lead to beleive that the best option was to reinstall software. This attempted, dialogue box appears and saysthe instilation failed because a function driver was not specified for this device instance.Contacted the printer manufacturer who says its a os problem. Microsft support on the web not helpful. Any ideas?ThanksWippy
-I- Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 what printer, (type brand ect) what os (windows NTx 2000 XP 2003 Vista(longhorn)any patches you installed lately (windows updates? tweaks or software), some more info would help....
cluberti Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 If you add a printer with a driver already built-in (like a generic HP Laserjet 5 driver), does it work, or does it also give an error? If it gives an error, then yes, the OS is at fault. If it works, then the print spooler is working fine and your printer vendor tech support sucks.
