supergudrun
To have more konventional memory free it is possible to include unused RAM-pages with the option "i=e000-efff".For the exact syntax you should google a bit. It is a long ago, i had to work with theese tools ...GrzSupergudrun
VCC
My question is, "Why are you using Config.sys & Autoexec.bat when you're loading XP?Check out the utilities in my signature, they may help you get up to speed with XP installs.
GreatBear
The reason for the Autoexec and config is because we're trying ti install XP off a network drive. It goes something like this....Boot the stationconnect and login to the networkmap a shared driveusing an Nlite configured installer, install XPThere have been a few problems...booting the system with enough free memory ...XP install errors...general mis-configurations (we fix 'em as we see 'em)clivebuckwheat has been doing a great job! We'll keep you postedThe GreatBear

Djé
Config.sysDEVICE=A:\EMM386.EXE /NOEMSWhy do you use the ' /NOEMS' switch? According to M$ Technet, it "prevents access to expanded memory".
clivebuckwheat
because to start the winnt.exe setup. I need at least 440k free. so I need to use the unused ram pages. The machines don't freeze anymore I used DEVICE=A:\EMM386.EXE RAM I=B000-B7FF HIGHSCAN.now if i can only stop smartdrv trying to write to the a: drivesee my other thread. cancerface
In case you are still having problems with this one, there is a series of bootdisks that can be found in Bart Lagerweij's web-site which have been extensively tested and are quite modular. You may want to give a try to the network bootdisk as it is already optimized in terms of memory requirements and is easy to edit according to your needs.Hope this helps ...CF
