I'm having difficulty finding software that will take snapshots of AVIs that I have. WinDVD Platinum claims it can take snapshots, but will not do it for AVI files. Do you know of any program that will do this? Hitting PrtScrn doesn't work. It just makes a black area when I try to paste it in PaintShop pro. Also, programs like SnagIt don't do any better.

theres several apps that'll do it, think one of em is called like HyperSnap or HyperDX, forgot, something like that, then enable it to capture overlay, somewhere in options...

I tried Hypersnap, like you said, but to no avail :) Maybe it just doesn't happen. Lots of neat options in it though!

EDIT: Wait! "Capture overlay?"

/me checks on this. will get back to you.

Handy, If you have a Radeon 9500/9700 you might want to check out the ATI video player. It has a nice feature that uses DirectX 9.0 shaders to improve the quality of DivX video content! ... and it can take shots of AVI files too :)

Virtual Dub can also do it. It has a feature where you mark a sertain section of the movie and then you can save that section as jpg .. But it saves every frame so if you mark just 5 secs you get a whole lot of pictures lol
