How to make a network connection between winXP and win2000? It doesn't work as between winXP & win98, winXP setup doesn't support it. Where to get more information? I just want to share files and to play network games with minimum risk of malware.

make sure they are in the same workgroup amd the same ip class but with different addresses (ie: 192.168.x.x, 192.168.x.y). share the resources you want and enable netbios over tcp/ip. also, to play games you will need to install the ipx/spx protocol on both machines. voila!
