Contitions: I have network around 10 PC's, and i want to make a folder in my local PC and share it, so I can access it from anywhere from my network, but I don't want other to access it. Computers are nor in domain. how to deny access to others?
March 29, 200620 yr I assume that you have NTFS file system, then you can share the folder with default share permissions and add NTFS permissions to ur account only..That's it..

I know how to share the folder, but how to add NTFS permissions to my account--that is something that I don't know. Can U light my sky and tell me how to to this....step by step?Thanks
March 31, 200620 yr It is much easier when you have a domain, but in this case you should create a user account on the PC where you will share the folder. Add this user account to ACL (Access Control List) for that folder respectively and grant him permissions you want.You can connect from other PC by typing \\%pcname% in run window, you'll see the sharing folder and it should ask you for username and pass.Or you can simply connect to admin share \\%pcname%\C$ ("C" is a drive letter, you can connect to any other drive u want or have on your PC)Then you'll be prompted to enter a username/pass and that's it. In this case you don't have to share anything and only you will have full access to all the folders on that PC..Click HERE to get more information on NTFS permissions..
March 31, 200620 yr If you can't get the permissions to work, you could always create a "hidden" share. When you share a folder, put a dollar "$" sign at the end of the share name. This will allow the folder to be shared, but will not be visible in network neighborhood or when browsing in Windows explorer; so in order to browse the folder, you will need to manually type the share name. Doesn't really deny access, but keeps the share more on a "need to know" status.(I don't know if this naming convention is the same for non-american versions of XP though...)
