change default install directory

my xp is installed on the f: drive and whenever i want to install a program,by default it want to be installed on the c: drive

is there a reg key that will let me change this to the f: drive?

Note:

promising this won't have unwanted side effects...it might be better to just

designate your install locations manually. But here it goes...

Go to registry:

Navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion

On the right side, find the string called ProgramFilesDir and modify it to the desired

path.

And then there is this page -you could use Coa2 I've only used it for Win9x but they say it works

with Winxp

well i tried the registry way and it did not work...

and that program doesnt work for x64
