They finally released the updated drivers for ALL models of the Soundblaster Live and SB Live 5.1. I have the CT4670 which is included in this most recent update (finally). It includes the updated AudioHQ and Surround Mixer.

Direct download at this link: (from Creative's website)

The version on the main files in the driver files section is 5.12.01.3210

The driver version on the main Driver properties page is 3509.2.0.0

The driver has a date of 11/2/2001.

The main thing this includes is all the AudioHQ stuff (keyboard, EAX Control Panel, AutoEAX, Surround Mixer, Volume Control, that little traybar icon). It has the support for the 5.1 and LiveSurround, in addition to the 2 and 4 speaker support.

This also adds the additional support for the LiveDrive, which is missing from the driver update last posted to windowsupdate.

Personally I prefer the drivers supplied by Microsoft in Windows Update ... but I hear some people have had problems with 4 speaker sound in those drivers.

What I've heard though about Creative's XP drivers haven’t really been too good though.

I can't speak for other, but I didn't seem to have any problems with 4 speaker support with Microsoft's drivers, I just didn't have any control over fade. It didn't support my LiveDrive as well as the Creative drivers (like turning off speaker output when I plug headphones into the Livedrive like I want). The Microsoft drivers didn't include any of the software the the Creative drivers do (all of the AudioHQ stuff).

I also noticed on my system that before I installed the updated drivers from Creative I was experiencing a strange problem.

My system would start to boot into Windows and go through the process normally until it got to the point where it initializes graphics and display the Welcome logonui.exe screen. At the point, I'd get a window with:

[b:94127c582f]"lsass.exe - Operation Failed

The requested operation was not successful."[/b:94127c582f]

and my system would turn itself OFF completely.

After I installed the Creative drivers I haven't once gotten this error. It wasn't a problem with hardware because I could boot into Linux all day long, and the problem was only sporadic with XP, but it's not shown up at all since the driver upgrade.
