Hello Patrick,

>

>Thank you for contacting Microsoft Online Customer Service.

>

>I appreciate you for taking the time to write back to us and I also

>appreciate your patience regarding the issue.

>

>I understand from your e-mail that you wish to know

>1. How to delete the folder in particular date.

>2. How to speed up the access time of application.

>3. Difference between Windows 98 and Windows XP Home.

>4. How to secure computer from hackers. I realize the importance of the

>issue and look forward to assisting you today.

>

>As a Customer Service Representative, I can assist you with the support

>options available with your Microsoft product. However, I have taken the

>time to look through Internet and found a web site which may assist you:

>

>Please visit this link:

>Please note:The links in this message may lead to Non-Microsoft web sites.

>Microsoft provides 3rd party resources to help you find e- service and/or

>To increase the speed of a program access, I would suggest you to clear

>files from "Prefetch" folder of your Windows XP, as Windows XP uses the

>"Prefetch technique" to load applications much faster than its

>predecessors. Using this feature the operating system gathers information

>about each program that you launch and stores that information in the

>\Windows\Prefetch folder. Then on subsequent restarts, Windows XP uses the

>information in the Prefetch folder to essentially preload parts of those

>programs at boot time. Thus, when you launch your application, it appears

>to load really fast.

>

>However, the Prefetch folder can accumulate too much information over time.

>This makes the operating system so busy loading bits and pieces of lots of

>applications into memory that it ends up slowing down the boot process. You

>can clean out the Prefetch folder at any time. I have listed the steps

>below:

>

>1. Click Start

>2. Click Run

>3. Type Prefetch

>4. Click Ok

>5. Press [Ctrl]A to select all the files.

>6. Press [Delete]

>

>As you use your system, Windows XP will rebuild the contents of the

>Prefetch folder.

>

>To compare Windows 98 with Windows XP, I have found a Microsoft Self-help

>web site which, may assist you:

>Patrick, for your convenience, I have researched Microsoft Resources and

>would like to inform you that there are three fairly simple steps that will

>help protect your computer from viruses and other malicious intruders. Use

>an Internet Firewall to put a barrier between your computer and hacker

>attacks. Make sure your operating system and other software are up to

>date. Ensure that you have up-to-date antivirus software installed.

>

>I would like you to know that Microsoft provides no-charge support for

>removal of Spyware and virus from Windows XP based computer.

>

>I hope the above information is helpful. If you have further questions,

>please do not hesitate to contact us.

>

>Thank you for using Microsoft products and services.
