drjwrg Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 I have tried four times to create a SP2 streamlined CD for XP pro. All attempts produce a black screen with no apparent disk activity with about 34 mins to go during the "installing devices" stage. The screen blacks first and disk activity eventually stops. If I resart, the installation will resart at "installing devices" with 39 mins to go but will eventally hang at the 34mins to go point.I saw a similar problem in the forum dicussion that exlained a installation hang at the 39mins to go stage and I implemented the advice given viz: click advanced, remove CAT files + disable windows file protection in the patches section. Also use RyanVM's addon pack. The installation still hangs. I have also tried using a borrowed XP source disk albeit with SP1 integrated but the same hang occurred. Can anyone help?Title edited -- Please, use [TAGS] in your topic's title. Please follow XP Forum Rules from now on.--Sonic
Cyclop-s Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 Hi,I've got the same problem. Used nLite to slipstream SP2 and some other tweaks to XP Pro. Made an iso image, used VMware and had no problem with the installation. Then I started to edit ntoskrnl, logonui, winntbbu, winnt32u and syssetup as mentioned in the unattended guide. Used modifype on the files and copied them to \I386. Then the XP install just hangs at 34 min during the 'installing device' stage. Rebooting doesn't help!Anyone got a clue??
The008 Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 something similar happened to me, but it stoped at 32min installing network, and I found out that I burned the CD using "Track at once", and when I used "Disc at once" everything got all right. Try it, I hope it helped you.
Wicket20519 Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 (edited) Interesting. The latest version of my disc I've been working on hangs at the 31 minute spot for about 5-10 minutes, then continues installing. It never used to do that on my previous version. Also, I use Nero 6 and always burn using the Track-at-once. If I use disc-at-once, I always run into problems.*Edited for poor grammar* Edited March 12, 2006 by Wicket20519
