Just sitting here wondering how one could create and intergrate a new emoticon into an IM client. Any suggestions?

The only one I know of that you can do it with (aside from reverse-engineering the other clients) is MSN Messenger 6. I prefer to draw pictures on a large scale in Paintshop Pro, then reduce them to MSN 6 specifications--which, by the way, is 19x19 pixels. Or you could go dot-by-dot on a 19x19 square. It's not that bad.
