Slow Response of Windows XP

Featured Replies

Hi,

Does anyone know the reason for the slow response of windows XP especially when booting up or starting new applications ?? Sometimes, the response is even slower than Windows 95.

Appreciate yr advice !!

I have seen an article that was posted by MS saying that one of their updates could cause that type issue. They have released another update or patch to correct that particular issue. check the Windows Updates page...

I don't know if this is your problem, but I do know that SP1 slowed it down remarkably. Programs start up much slower and it starts up much slower. Especially if it's being run on a lower-end machine.

Also check to see what you have in the start up. If you've got loads of stuff in there, you'll want to remove/disable some of them.

Click on Start>Run>msconfig>Startup Hope this helps.

Delete all files in the Temp folders and defragment your drive.

The Update that Rik is referring to is Q811493.

Try uninstalling the current Q811493 and redownload from Windows Update.

Hope this helps.
