rakem Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 Im going to install exchange onto a server (not a dc) very soon, is it necessary to run domainprep and forestprep on every DC in the domain? We have one domain name, with 7 sites and a DC in each site.
chilifrei64 Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 to my knowledge it shouldnt matter. I have installed exchange on multiple site multiple DC networks before and only ran domain prep on my main DC(operations master) and never ran into a problem. Active directory will replicate the schema on its own.
cluberti Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 You need to run forestprep once from one DC in the root domain of a forest, and domainprep once from one DC in every child domain (including the root domain of the forest). If you only have one domain root and no child domains, you only need to run forestprep and domainprep (in that order) on one, and only one, DC. You should wait 15-30 minutes between running forestprep and running domainprep, but otherwise there are no caveats.
