Then it's safe to assume that your memory and CPU are working correctly.

The problem is either in some other hardware or the software.

What about posting HiJackThis log and doing a virus scan?

I run a virus and adware scan on my whole comp once a week so I know its not a virus, I also run hijack this, but here is the log anyway...

Nothing especially malicious in the HJT log, but you might want to clean up these missing-file entries:

Does this problem still happen whenever you open a .mov file in Quicktime? And is it only one file that's causing this problem?

Does opening .mov in another program (try notepad, it obviously won't play but it'll read the file from the HDD) produce this error?

I have a folder on my desktop that I have video content in, it only happens with the quicktime files in this one folder all of my other qt files play just fine.

And yes I can successfully open the files in word pad...

The files might be malformed and just happened to exploit a vulnerability in Quicktime that made it crash.

Here is something interesting, I copied one of the qt files and moved it from the folder that was on the desktop to it just being on the desktop itself. I tried opening it and the computer crashed. I then tried moving it to another internal hdd and the computer crashed, lastly I moved it to my external hdd and the movie loaded and played fine. So I copied it from the external hdd back to the desktop and the movie opened for a few seconds then the computer crashed. What do you guys make of that?

Do you think running the windows recovery console would help? I also learned that the computer crashes when I try to encode - export to quicktime... but like I said before all of my quicktime files that are currently on my computer play fine, except for the ones in that one folder on my desktop. But if I copy those qt files in that folder to my external hdd they play fine from there, but will crash the computer if I copy them back and try to play them...

What if you copy those problematic files to somewhere else on the internal hard drive - e.g. the root or some other folder?

Are these files large?

A filesystem corruption seems to be my current best guess.

Still crashes.

Some sort-of file system corruption makes sense to me to but only quicktime gives me a problem. Is there anyway to completely remove quicktime, ie program codecs etc? I'm thinking it must be something with quicktime...

The uninstaller doesn't remove everything? Try that first.

Otherwise, I have no idea how you can track down and remove everything (regkeys, files, etc.) it installed.

I tried uninstalling/reinstalling but I still have the same problem :(

What happens in safe mode?

I ask because it could be a driver. If it works in safe mode next step is disable all start up appz, yes all, using msconfig and see if it still works.

In safe mode if I double click one of the files to open it, qt never opens.

I did find a solution I think, I un-installed qt 7 and found a copy of qt 6.5 and installed that and everything now plays fine. but I still wonder what with qt 7 is causing the prob.

Hey guys sorry for bringing up this old thread, but this issue really aggravates me. I finally reinstalled my OS installed qt7 - saved a qt movie off of the web, which played fine to my desktop and lone and behold my computer crashed - This has to be some sort of hardware error?
