markten
Hello this has probably been asked a thousand times before so if you can point me to a thread please do so.Can anyone help.I wish to modify certain files of my windows install.I extract the files and then try to create a new cab file. But it's never the same size as the original.I want to disable wfp on only certain files.Windows fails when copying files that I've hacked.I just replace the files in the i386 folder but I've read things all over the net. What's the real deal???I'm not a newbie and can follow along.Any help would be much appreciated.MarkTenPlease NOW, in Microsoft Windows XP section, use [TAGS] in your topic's title.See rules.--Sonic

Obviously it's my misunderstanding of how the process works. I thought you had to get the cab file back to the same size with the same date and time stamp for windows to allow it to copy. With the SFC checking. I never knew it was about checksums. I'd read all over the net that I had to modify the registry ammend an old sfc_os.dll sp1 file and add it to my sp2 install disc. As the sp2 file was hack proof etc etc etc. I spent all weekend doing this with ultraedit and whatever else.Blimey here in the UK we call that a bum steer!!!! ;-)Hey Spazmire11 thanks very much for your help here. I can honestly say it was short sweet and worked a treat. extracted my files from the cab file worked on them. Then ran it through modifype made a new cab with makecab and added it to my I386 folder used nlite and it works. Simple quick.Plus no disabling SFC and all the headaches that entails!!!Thank you again and what an awsome site this is!!!MarkTen!
