alegator Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 (edited) I have a Dell PC. I need to repair Windows. Can I use a WinXP CD different than the original one used to freshly install XP? Edited January 31, 2006 by sonic
cluberti Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 If you can find another Dell OEM WinXP CD, you should be in good shape. Otherwise, your Windows XP key likely won't work, and you'll be in a bit of a pinch.
alegator Posted January 31, 2006 Author Posted January 31, 2006 Problem is that currently my installed WinXP is patched with SP2 and latest patches, whereas the original Dell OEM WinXP is pre SP1, so my idea was using a WinXP CD slipstreamed with SP2 and latest patches. If this is not possible, then can I create a slipstreamed SP2 CD using the Dell OEM CD?

Setup will ask your cdkey and the key present on the sticker will work but need activation by phone.Otherwise, you can recreate the original dell cd but with sp2 with searching in Unattended forum ...http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=53243http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=63258http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=47278
