Automatic update?

I've made the settings so that it should automatically update everything when I connect to the internet but it doesnt have the icon in the tray and it isnt downloading them...

Control panel->Performance and Maintenence->See basic information about your computer->Automatic updates tab->Download updates automatically and notify me when they're ready to be installed

I know there are updates which need installing because I just checked using the update thingy on the start menu

Can you install those updates manually or does that not work either?

Automatic Updates will not download all updates.

The following updates are supported

Windows Critical Updates

Windows Critical Security Updates

Windows Security Roll-ups

erm yeah it lets me download em manually but that means I have 2 remember to do it

And yeah there were critical updates waiting to be downloaded

I turned off that feature... then again it got annoying because I my system is up for 30+ days between reboots and at one point it wouldn't shut up!

Anyway, to address your forgetting. If you read this forum,which you obviously do, you'll see the news articles on new updates! Problem solved, no?

I disable it because it annoys me, and whenver I update I always get problems :/

beccatigger, you'll need to wait a day or so. Its scheduled to check for updates.
