RogueSpear
Using RyanVM's latest update pack, the only items that appear in Windows Update for me is an Office 2003 update and a SharePoint 2003 update. I still think the Microsoft Update (as opposed to Windows Update) has some issues that need to be worked out, but you don't mention how you're integrating your hotfixes. BoardBabe
The correct way hehe, just did'nt bother.. /integrate on hotfixes and the admin install way of Office junkmail filter/updates.
RogueSpear
I always use Ryan's pack for the XP stuff and, like you, apply the msp files to my aip of Office 2003. For some reason, some of the Office patches don't seem to register as installed. I'm guess that there's a registry entry that's not being made properly or at all. It's interesting that you say /integrate is the "correct" way however. When you really look at it from a technical standpoint, Microsoft's prescribed method is actually inferior. Like other things in life, the official way is not always the best. RyanVM
I'm pretty sure it's a known bug with MU that it doesn't properly detect Office 2003 hotfixes which were integrated into the administrative install point.
BoardBabe
RyanVM: Yes, I have read that somewhere Although I did not know it would not detect the latest IE update either And I'd really like to hide the MSN messenger and Windows Genuine Advantage Notification Tool. I know the data should be stored in DataStore.edb, although upon test the changes did not apply when copying this file (after hiding updates at MU) to UA media. RyanVM
The IE one shouldn't show, since MU is at least smart enough to check file versions to determine whether or not a hotfix is installed. Try running qfecheck on your system. I bet the IE fix isn't actually installed properly for whatever reason.
BoardBabe
Thank you RyanVM for your help! Here is the output of qfcheck. It shows that KB905915 is installed on system, however it still appears on MU after a fresh install of my source. I integrated it with the /integrate switch as with all my other hotfixes. (PS. KB905915 also appears on Windows Update)Windows XP Hotfix Validation Report for \\xxxReport Date: 1/30/2006 00:00amCurrent Service Pack Level: Service Pack 2Hotfixes Identified:KB909520: Current on system.Q282784: Current on system.KB834707: Current on system.KB867282: Current on system.KB873333: Current on system.KB873339: Current on system.KB883939: Current on system.KB885250: Current on system.KB885835: Current on system.KB885836: Current on system.KB886185: Current on system.KB887742: Current on system.KB887797: Current on system.KB888113: Current on system.KB888302: Current on system.KB890046: Current on system.KB890047: Current on system.KB890175: Current on system.KB890859: Current on system.KB890923: Current on system.KB891781: Current on system.KB893066: Current on system.KB893086: Current on system.KB893756: Current on system.KB893803v2: Current on systeKB894391: Current on system.KB896358: Current on system.KB896422: Current on system.KB896423: Current on system.KB896424: Current on system.KB896428: Current on system.KB896688: Current on system.KB896727: Current on system.KB898461: Current on system.KB899587: Current on system.KB899588: Current on system.KB899589: Current on system.KB899591: Current on system.KB900725: Current on system.KB900930: Current on system.KB901017: Current on system.KB901214: Current on system.KB902400: Current on system.KB903235: Current on system.KB904706: Current on system.KB905414: Current on system.KB905749: Current on system.KB905915: Current on system.KB906569: Current on system.KB908519: Current on system.KB910437: Current on system.KB912919: Current on system. RyanVM
I remember when a previous IE hotfix came out (during one of the periods when I was unable to update the Update Pack for a couple months) that people who were integrating it on their own had problems because they updated the files but not the new registry entries. However, if you're installing from the EXE, I don't see how you could possibly be running into that scenario.Does MU give you any kind of error when you try to install it? Check the logs on your system.
BoardBabe
I'm not quite sure how to read windowsupdate.log and the entries in that file does'nt make much sence to me, however I just installed the hotfix from MU with no errors, after the required reboot it does not show up anymore.I find it very strange that only this update shows, and non of the other i have /integrate:path\to\source. RyanVM
I would have loved to have seen a trace from the hotfix install with something like InCtrl5 to see what changed that allowed it to appear as installed.Oh well
BoardBabe
I would love to show you too hehe, just tell me what to look for? SHould I post the latest entries in windowsupdate.log?
RyanVM
No, it's too late now. You'd have to start the trace prior to installing the hotfix from MU and then stop it afterwards.
BoardBabe
I'm actually about to reformat my drive now, so please tell me how to do this, and Ill start the "trace" before checking MU for the update.
