Make Winamp play an m3u playlist with an other extension

Does anybody know how I can make Winamp play an m3u playlist with an other extension?

For example I want .m3u to associate with Windows Media Player and play video files and .m3p to associated with Winamp and play mp3.

I can associate .m3p with Winamp but it wont play the playlist, the file just becomes one row in Winamp playlist.

90% sure .pls is playlist, use that instead of m3u for your winamp ones
