Help Chaging The SYTEM Folder

Featured Replies

Is there a way to change the system folder? I accedentaly installed windows without formating the drive first. So windows was installed in "WINDOWS.0" I would like to change it to: "WINDOWS"

How can I do that without causing problems?

Thanks!

hum ... I think it's not possible with clean method.

Perhaps you can test this (but not recommended before a ghost backup ^^)

Boot from a BartPE cd (windows xp live cd)

delete old Windows and rename Windows.0 to Windows

load registry (like avast regedit , there is a plugin for bartpe)

and search and replace all occurence of Windows.0 and replace by Windows (regsitry crawler is perfect for that but it can't handle an offline registry if I remember)

This method can worl great, but I think there are files which are search for windows.0 and not windows.

Try & see !

Goodluck.

Ok I will try it when I get home and let you know if it will work. I thought about doing it this way but didn't know if there was a faster way. Like an app that does the registry renaming for you.

Thanks for your reply,
