Windows System 32 Pop up looks like DOS

Hi All,

Here is my situation. I have a dell dimension desktop running windows xp home edition. Recently had a run in with some viruses and spyware. Everything seems to be okay now. Running mcafee firewall, virus scan, spybot and ad-aware.

The last lingering problem is a pop up that shows up about every five minutes or so. It shows up for about a second so its hard to read all of the info. It looks like a mini DOS window. Black with a header on top and says something like this: windows system 32/wincenter-1.exe. Probably not exact - but close.

Any idea what this is? Spyware or something screwy going on w/ XP as a result of previous spyware?

Thanks in advance for your help!!

check scheduled tasks..and see if there is something there...

also go to the command prompt..and type in "at" see if there are any entries there...

check your registry for startup items as well...

If you can locate the file on your computer then delete it. If access is denied then download Unlocker (can be found on the forum somewhere) and use that to gain access to delete it. My general thing with files is: If I didn't install it and it didn't come with windows then delete it. Hope this helps.

Cheers,
