Vitalix
Hey guys and gals,Looking into my Exchange server (2003), I see that the System Volume Information folder has over 22GB of files, each one froom 180MB-500MB. Seems to happen at 7PM each night. Thought it was Shadow Copy service, but it's off!Now Veritas backs up our Exchange Server, and I think it may use the Shadow Copy.Starting to run out of space.Anyone familiar with either of these products? Not sure who to call; don't want to wreck Exchange, but don't want to stop backups either! Thanks in advance as always!Vitaly
cluberti
It's the Veritas software - it uses the VSP provider as well for open file option, if you have it installed. You can still set the limits by going to the properties of the drive in Windows Explorer, go to the Shadow Copies tab, then click on the drive (or drives) and click the "settings" button. Even without the Volume Shadow Copy service enabled, the provider still reads these values - if you have a hard limit set (which, as you've already found, is NOT the default), all providers using this service should abide by it. Set the maximum to a reasonable number, and within an hour or two you should have your disk space back .
atomizer
and if you want to see its contents, just add the administrator account to its permissions. i don't know if it can do any harm if you leave the admin account there, i just do it to see what's inside the directory and then i remove it again.
