knarayanan Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 I have 98SE on my Dell XPS600r. Whenever I start up, it gives me the option to start in Normal, safe etc. I tried setting up Normal as a default thru. MSCONFIG. No luck. Can any one walk me thru, what I need to do other than reinstalling Windows. Thanks.

Thanks.Try editing C:\CONFIG.SYS and add a default entry with a time out:[Menu]MenuItem=DOSMenuItem=NetBSDMenuItem=LinuxMenuDefault=Linux,5In the above example, the "Linux" option will be chosen in 5 seconds.
RainyShadow Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 Look for "BootMenu=1" in MSDOS.SYS and change it to "BootMenu=0"
MDGx Posted January 9, 2006 Posted January 9, 2006 How to modify MSDOS.SYS to adapt Startup Menu to your needs:http://www.mdgx.com/msdos.htmHope this helps.
