If I delete the %UserProfile%\Favourites\Links dir it just comes back. Any idea how to prevent it from appearing on the IE favourites drop-down?

ad : [FavoritesEx] to your winnt.sif , and the standard favorites should be gone

Thank you!

Would I then not have to delete this dir in my cleanup?

rd /s /q "%UserProfile%\Favoritter\Koblinger"

Actually it seems this might remove the actual shortcuts within IE>>Favourites>>Links, and not the Links "folder" itself?

My problem is that I want this folder gone and removed from IE>>Favourites

PS. The path on my Norwegian system is %UserProfile%\Favoritter\Koblinger (%UserProfile%\Favourites\Links on english system)

You probably need to do this too:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar

LinksFolderName

Delete the Links (or whatever name) under Data, leaving it blank

Using a custom installation of IE developed with the Internet Explorer Administration Kit will also allow you to remove the links from the installation. It is easy to use and is freely available on the MS website.

Check it out!

Actually, you wouldn't create a custom install for XP, since it already has IE 6, you would just create a custom branding file.

When you run IEAK, you select "Single Disk Branding". Then put that in your $OEM$ folder.

And in your WINNT.SIF, add the following:

[Branding]
BrandIEUsingUnattended = No
IEBrandingFile = INSTALL.INS

Find the IEAK page here:
