Blue Screen (Fatal error) how to recover files

Recommended Posts

I have got 3 OSs installed on my laptop:

1- 2000 Advanced server

2- FC4

3- Solaris 10

Suddenly I received blue screen (fatal error screen) when I booted my laptop in 2000 server.

How can I recover my files and folders.

I am thinking to use knoppix live CD V4,,,

Or mounting windows partition under Linux.

Is there any other idea (may be it will easier) ?

a WINPE or BARTPE CD with network services or CD burning capabilities would be the most efficent way to do it, knoppix would work but a win or bart PE cd would work better to recover info off the win2000 partition(weither it be FAT32 or NTFS).

You can download BartPE here, all the instructions are found on the page.

WINPE would need to be aquired through microsoft, so BARTPE would the indeal choice if you need to get it fixed quickly

I tried safe mode and it is working also.

Do I need still to use BartPE ?

Can I solve windows problem ? or I have to install a fresh copy ?

Have you tried the tools at sysinternals.com? They have a disk recovery. Or you can mount the disk from an XP machine.

Also if safe mode is working do a search on the BSOD that you got. Usually this is related to hardware or a bad driver

Winternals.com has an emergency recovery utility available as a free download. That may help you out.
