I am working on windows 2000. I want to put vista icons into the shell or explorer or both. Use xp start bar.

I would like to upgrade the windows installer also

being able to add the icons from vista to 2000 i don't think is possible, you can try and take them out of the beta, but i don't think the formats are the same. there is also no skinning engine in 2000 like XP, so xp start bar is probabaly out also.

windows installer 3.1 is the newest installer for 2000, if you have SP4 you may already have it.

What size and what bit icons does 2k use?

If you go to the xpize thread and search for the thread about using it on win2k, it describes how to install xpize icons on it.

Heres how to do it... (for the icons)

1. download the icon set here
   
2. download icon packager here
   
3. Use icon packager to set up your vista icons
   
4. enjoy
