Hi guys hope you can help.

We have problem with some of our Computers not always being able to print.

This is the scenario>

Client PC> XP/2000

Running Novell Client on IPX Network.

Novell Client is set for IPX as default protocol.

When capturing the printer Q to Port LPT1 it prints fine.

When i reboot the computer it doesn't re-capture the print Q even though it's been set to do just that.

Here's the thing we can't use IP printing because we use an application that can only print to an LPT1 port

Is there software available we can use to "map our Ip printing to somekind of virtual LPT port ??

Kind of tying the 2 ports together :}

Thanks

Of course you can use IP printing...it's just tricky.

Install the printer as if it were actually on LPT1. Then redirect LPT1 to the network device:

net use LPT1: \\SERVER\Printer_Name /PERSISTENT:YES

If you don't currently have the printer shared off of a server then you'll have to either install it on a server with an IP printer port or pick a workstation to install it on and share it from. Another option is to install it twice on the workstation...once for IP printing and once for LPT1 printer. Share the IP printing one, then use the net use command to redirect LPT1 back to the shared printer.

We had to come up with this same work around for an old 16-bit application that we aren't quite rid of yet. Soon, but not soon enough...
