There are usually four folderviews, with large icons, small icons, listing, and details - the latter shows file size and file date. My 'details' view has become invisible. Anyone know how I can restore this view?

"become invisible"? What exactly do you mean by that? Anyway, try restoring your user32.dll and explorer.exe. If any other program that uses a listview control is also broken, then it's most likely the user32. Otherwise the explorer.exe could've gotten corrupted.
