celtish Posted December 14, 2005 Posted December 14, 2005 I got an Adaptec CD recording package with my machine a few years back - it works but is very slow. Since then Adaptec have dealt with these packages under its new Roxio brand. I have tried to update the package and have downloaded updates but they refuse to install saying that no Roxio programmes have been detected (they won't - they were originally Adaptec!).I have contacted both Adaptec and Roxio separately about this problem but neither of them wants to know.Does anyone have a 'take' on this?
Guest Jlo555 Posted December 14, 2005 Posted December 14, 2005 A lot of times companies get p***ed off if they find out that you aren't willing to pay for an upgrade of their product. The fact that your software is made by adaptec (I'm guessing) means that it is pretty old, and I strongly advise you to upgrade it. I don't really know why you're trying to update the program anyway if everything is working fine. But, keep in mind that old cd/dvd burning apps have their limitations on newer optical drives; meaning that if your burning app is old and your burner is new, you could very well be sh!t outta luck. This happened to me at least 3 times with both Roxio and Nero. The only version of adaptec that I remember is the one that came with my family's Dell computer in 1999. I tried using it with a new cd burner in 2002... no dice. I'd say that in the fast advancing world of computers, the optical drives are moving the fastest (imo). Three years ago a DVD burner was 2.4x and cost $400, now I can get a 16x one for $40. In 1999 a cd-r from costco cost $1 EACH, and I could still use adaptec. My, how times have changed.
celtish Posted December 15, 2005 Author Posted December 15, 2005 I would upgrade except that most upgrades nowadays won't install with Win98SE!
