WINNT.SIF language settings

Recommended Posts

Is there any way of stopping the US language from installing, that doesn't involve the use of nLite?

I have successed in having XP install English (Australian), yet the US language remains.

Am I missing something? Does M$ assume that we all want to speak the US form of the language, but don't know it yet?

[RegionalSettings]
LanguageGroup=1
SystemLocale=00000c09
UserLocale=00000c09
InputLocale=0c09:00000409

From what I can tell, the InputLocale settings requires the 409 option to tell it to use a US keyboard layout, but I may be wrong.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

The primary language of the CD will always be installed from txtsetup.sif before the GUI mode setup wizard. Unless you have a localized CD or changed the language in txtsetup.sif the primary language will be US English.

I have the anser to this as i had the same problem when installng UK English US still remained as secondary option.

i got some pointers from this forum & after some investigation myself I found a fix.

Basicallyyou need to remove a reg key from the default user profile during installation.

here is full details.

in a cmdlines.txt file I have got :-

[COMMANDS]

"regedit /s keyboard.reg"

this file sits in the $OEM$ directory.

Also in this directory on my XP CD I have the reg file keyboard.reg this contains the string to delete.

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Keyboard Layout\Preload]

"2"=-

Basically at 12 mins to go on the install the cmdlines.txt is passed (run) this links to my reg file which removes the key to get rid of US. Anyuser that logs on after the install will be US keyboard free. Yipppeee.

I hope this helps.

Require Help

I have no cmdlines.txt file

However, there are quite a few .INF files that have to be run according to the TXTSETUP.SIF file such as:

[HiveInfs.Fresh]

AddReg = hivedef.inf,AddReg

AddReg = hivesys.inf,AddReg

AddReg = hivesft.inf,AddReg

AddReg = hivecls.inf,AddReg

AddReg = hiveusd.inf,AddReg

AddReg = dmreg.inf,DM.AddReg

[HiveInfs.Fresh.RemoteBoot]

AddReg = hivesys.inf,AddReg.RemoteBoot

[HiveInfs.Upgrade]

DelReg = hivesft.inf,DelRegFirst

DelReg = hivedef.inf,DelReg

AddReg = hivedef.inf,AddReg

DelReg = hivesys.inf,DelReg

AddReg = hivesys.inf,AddReg

AddReg = hivesys.inf,AddReg.Upgrade

DelReg = hivesft.inf,DelReg

AddReg = hivesft.inf,AddReg

AddReg = hivesft.inf,AddReg.Upgrade

DelReg = hivecls.inf,DelReg

AddReg = hivecls.inf,AddReg

AddReg = hiveusd.inf,AddReg

DelReg = dmreg.inf,DM.DelReg

AddReg = dmreg.inf,DM.AddReg

Any of the above, I'm able to edit (expand edit then recompress if needed)

but this is my situation:

WINNT.SIF:

[RegionalSettings]

LanguageGroup=1

SystemLocale="1009"

UserLocale="1009"

UserLocale_DefaultUser="1009"

InputLocale="1009:00000409"

InputLocale_DefaultUser="1009:00000409"

Using the above settings, when I get into windows and bring up Regional Settings from the control panel

Default Input Language = "English (Canada) - US"

Install Services for Keyboard says:

1. English (Canada)

Keyboard

US

2. English (United States)

Keyboard

US

When I go into the registry to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Keyboard Layout\Preload

I have 2 lines:

1 = 00001009

2 = 00000409

When I go into the registry to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Keyboard Layout\Substitutes

00001009=00000409

If I delete the 2nd entry in Preload

Install Services for Keyboard Now Only says:

1. English (Canada)

Keyboard

US

However, until I log off then back on again, when the cursor moves up the start menue, The Highlight is not blue and the words\letters change from black to white... Only until I log back in again.

Where is my problem?

Why can I not enter windows with these settings:

Default Input Language = "English (Canada) - US"

Install Services for Keyboard says:

1. English (Canada)

Keyboard

US

AND with the Preference Buttons for both "Language Bar" and "Key Settings" to be greyed out so their Unusable.

======================================

Any Help would be greatly appreciated. TIA.
