Moe Posted May 14, 2003 Posted May 14, 2003 I have two computers (Desktop and laptop) connected thru a Liksys router that is connected to a cable modem. They are both running WinXP. I connect to my company's network using Nortel Network VPN. I can access my email (Lotus), all intranet sites, and can send instant messages. The probelm is when I try mapping to network drives. I can map sometimes, and not others. It seems pretty random. I can ALWAYS ping the server, but still cannot map the drive. I SOMETIMES have success by going to a command prompt and releasing and renewing the IP address' (IPCONFIG /RELEASE, and /RENEW). Like I said this works SOMTIMES. I have connected both computer separately to the cable modem and had the same results. I have spoken to my LAN administrators, but they couldnt help. Any suggestions?
freecableguy Posted May 28, 2003 Posted May 28, 2003 I am willing to bet that it has something to do with the "Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP" setting. Make sure you select this and NOT the "Default" setting. You can find it under the WINS tab of the "Advanced..." button on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) field from your connection settings. Good luck.
