Scan physical disk with NTFS

Hey folks,

Anyone know of utility, free , that will let me do a physical scan of hard drive that has NTFS on it? I think I've got a laptop with a couple of bad sectors on it.

The built in chkdsk tool is very good, you can run it from command prompt with certain switches. To get a full listing of those switches type:

chkdsk /?

all you probably need to use is the /F switch to fix errors if any are found, you will need to reboot so the volume can dismount before fixing these sectors.

Yeah, I was kind of hoping there was something out there that could do it with out dismounting the drive.

You could try Western Digital's LifeGuard tool, which works for all other hard drives as well.

Well, I ended up getting diskeeper. It does a fine job, from what I can see.

eh Diskeeper is a defragmenter tool, it doesn't fix errors on your hard disks.

Yeah, I kind of figured that one out afterwards.
