mirc suddenly closing

I bring mIRC to school with me and run it from my flash drive, but at random points it will give me that box that says 'mIRC has caused an illegal operation...' It's running fine and then just does that all of the sudden...sometimes it works great and sometimes it does it a lot.

Any reason why? Could it be because I'm running it from my flash drive? I'm assuming so since it doesn't do it when I copy to the hard drive, it runs fine, but I'd like to keep it going from my flash drive if possible.

Hydra IRC

all of these are better than mIRC imo
