ClownShoes Posted November 30, 2005 Posted November 30, 2005 Does anyone know how to disable visual effects in XP for best performance? I have searched through many registry tweaks on the site and searching under visual effects on the site doesn't seem to get me any further. Any ideas boys and girls?
clavicle Posted November 30, 2005 Posted November 30, 2005 (edited) Use nlite oruse registrytweakage programme found at msfnhttp://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=49320&st=0 Edited November 30, 2005 by clavicle
ClownShoes Posted November 30, 2005 Author Posted November 30, 2005 Great, that covers all of them except for use visual styles on windows and buttons. Any ideas on how to deactivate them?
ClownShoes Posted November 30, 2005 Author Posted November 30, 2005 I'm very confused now!! I applied a lot of tweaks in Nlite but when I test the iso in Virtual PC they don't all appear to have worked. None of the visual effects seem to have been deactivated!! Could someone point me in the right direction here please
cluberti Posted November 30, 2005 Posted November 30, 2005 If you use the following in WINNT.SIF, it should start with themes disabled, and the system in the "Adjusted for best performance" state:[shell] DefaultStartPanelOff = YES DefaultThemesOff = YES
ClownShoes Posted December 1, 2005 Author Posted December 1, 2005 Thanks Cluberti, but that doesn't seem to work! The description for the two WINNT.SIF settings are as follows; DefaultStartPanelOff = YesThis tells Windows XP to use the Classic Start Menu, and displays the My Computer, My Documents icons as well as others on the Windows Desktop. If set to No, then the default Windows XP Start Menu is used.DefaultThemesOff = YesThis tells Windows XP to use the Classic Theme. Note: This option overrides CustomDefaultThemeFile option when set to Yes.Are you sure they should result in the best performance setting within visual effects? The strange thing is when XP loaded the effects were stiil active, so I went to the visual effects tab in system and as I sat there wondering why all the boxes were ticked, they suddenly all unticked themselves!!! although I still had to press apply before the effects were actually deactivated. In nlite I have ticked to deactivate all of these settings but with no joy, which is strange as all the other tweaks I have done in nlite have worked. The registrytweakage programme Clavicle linked to doesn't appear to contain these visual effect tweaks. Can anyone guess what might be going wrong?
