can anybody tell me how to change the icon in a .exe file please?

i tried using res hacker to edit zsnes.exe and replaced the icons, but the .exe stopped working, surely there must be a way to do this. can anyone help please?

reshacker should be the best option but there are alternatives like "restorator 2005" which is definetly what you're looking for

ok, so lets say i use res hacker, i open the exe file and select the icon i want to change, i then right click the icon and select "replace resource" and then save. but this gives me a non-working exe file, what am i doing wrong?

What exe file are you trying to change it might have been compressed. I will give you a hand at this.

i was trying the zsnes exe file, (you know the snes emulator)

if you could help me that would be great

I've downloaded ZSNES v1.42 and scanned with PEiD v0.93

The exe file is encrypted with:

UPX 0.89.6 - 1.02 / 1.05 - 1.24 -> Markus & Laszlo

you can use UPX to decompress it.

download upx Here. place zsnesw.exe and upx.exe in the root of C: as its easier to explain then just goto start > run and type C:\upx.exe -d zsnesw.exe

and voila it will be unpacked to 2.97MB.
